| 2/3 cup | shortening | | 1-1/2 cup | brown sugar | | 1 tsp. | water | | 2 | eggs | | 3/4 tsp. | vanilla | | 1-1/2 cup | all-purpose flour | | 1/3 cup | Hershey\'s cocoa | | 1/4 tsp. | baking soda | | 1/4 tsp. | salt | | 2 cups | semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional) |

Instructions
Beat shortening, brown sugar, and water until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt; gradually add to sugar mixture until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Heat oven to 375°F. Drop cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool for 2 minutes.
