Texas Sheet Cake

INGREDIENTS

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
dash of salt
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup cocoa
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Chocolate Frosting:
1 stick butter
4 tsp. cocoa
6 tsp. milk
1 lb. sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

INSTRUCTIONS

Mix together sugar, flour and salt . Place butter, cocoa, shortening and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. When it reaches a boil, add flour and sugar. Beat together. Mix buttermilk with baking soda. Then add eggs, buttermilk mixture and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Grease and flour pan (10x15-inch) Pour batter into pan, and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.

Chocolate Frosting:
Heat butter, milk and cocoa in saucepan for about 5 minutes before cake is done. Then add vanilla and powdered sugar to mixture; stir together. Frost cake when you take it from the oven.

I would suggest using sour cream instead of buttermilk. I also add Walnuts to my icing. June 27, 1999
