INGREDIENTS

1-3/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 baking soda
1 pinch salt
3 tbsp. shortening
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
Raisins, currants, dried cranberries, chopped dates, grated fruit peel (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Stir in the fruit and buttermilk. Turn on to a flour board. Roll to a 1/2-inch thick and cut into wedges. Bake for 10-12 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
