South of the Border Dip

INGREDIENTS

1 lb. ground beef, ground turkey or chicken
1 lb. Italian sausage
1/2 cup chopped, sautéed onion
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 can refried beans
1 bottle taco sauce
1 can chopped green chilies
1 lg. pkg. grated monterey jack cheese
1 lg. container sour cream
1 to 2 avocados (blended with lemon juice)
Black olives
Chopped scallions

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350°F. Fry ground meats (ground beef and Italian sausage) well and drain. Add 1/2 cup chopped and sautéed onion.

In the bottom of a long casserole, layer the following: refried beans (spread out and pressed down), meat and onion mixture, taco sauce, chilies, jack cheese. Cover and place in oven at 350°F for 20 minutes. Let cool somewhat. Spread on it the sour cream, avocados blended with lemon juice, black olives and chopped scallions. Serve warm and dip with tortilla chips.
