Danish Red Cabbage

INGREDIENTS
1 md. head red cabbage, finely cut or sliced
2 tart green apples, peeled and cut up
2 tbsp. butter
1 md. onion, sliced
1 quart water
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
1/2 lemon, juice of
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat butter in large saucepan; sauté onion and apples for 3 to 4 minutes. Add water, vinegar and seasonings; bring to a boil and add cabbage. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes, or until tender. Use a slotted spoon to serve.
