Servings: 1 quart

INGREDIENTS

3/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/8 cup honey
1/8 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup soy sauce, low sodium
1 cup ketchup (either Heinz or homemade)
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tbs Tabasco sauce, chipotles
1 1/2 tbs liquid smoke
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (may use regular paprika is smoked cannot be found)
1/2 tsp dried mustard
1 tbs cornstarch
1 tbs water

INSTRUCTIONS

In a medium saucepan, over medium-low heat, mix together brown sugar, molasses, honey and maple syrup. Cook until bubbly and very sticky. Stir in soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar and liquid smoke. This will cause the sauce to bubble up (be careful!). Stir in dried spices, and bring to a rapid simmer. Combine cornstarch and water into a slurry, and quickly stir into sauce. Reduce heat and simmer for 2-3 hours.

CHEF COMMENTS

An absolutely delicious homemade barbecue sauce recipe. This is my own creation, and I hope you enjoy it. The yield is approximate.

This can be stored in the fridge seemingly indefinitely. I've never had it spoil, even after 4 weeks in the fridge. It also freezes and thaws well.
