Definition
A member of the hickory family, this Native American nut is harvested from pecan trees. Pecan kernels are found within the nuts' 1-inch round tan shell, and are appreciated for their buttery-rich flavor. They have the highest fat content of any nut at 70%. Pecans are typically grown in the deep south of the United States, primarily in Georgia, but also in Virginia, Oklahoma and Texas.
